March, Ayden Sanders, a senior at Ottawa Township High School, is the April Musician of the Month, sponsored by Carlson V Auto Body and Salt Tree Yoga. Ayden is a 4-year member of the Ottawa Township Band Program where he plays trumpet and a 2-year member of the choir program. In his time at Ottawa, he has served as section leader of the trumpets in the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Marching Pirates. Ayden has participated in the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) District 2 concert band and jazz band auditions numerous times and selected for these ensembles in 3 of his 4 years in high school. His freshmen through junior years, Ayden was selected for the conference honor band (NIB12 and 18, no honor band held this year due to the pandemic). In the IHSA solo and ensemble contest, Ayden has received numerous division I (superior) ratings for his work as a soloist and in various ensembles. In 2019, one of his ensembles received the "Best of Day" award. In addition to music, Ayden was also a 2-year member of the basketball team and is an active member at Trinity OHS Musician of the Month Lutheran Church where he also serves as a member of the church council. Ayden Sanders Ottawa Township High School Ayden is the son of Ted and Keisha Sanders. He plans to attend the Virginia Military Institute with a major in history and the hope to commission as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. He also plans to continue playing his trumpet and join the VMI Regimental Band.
