STREATOR ILL. Artists Capitol OF STARVED ROCK COUNTRY With over 40 pieces of public art this up and coming community has numerous sites to see! The art scene of Streator, II has been growing and captivating audiences every year. The largest project to date took place in 2018 with the Walldogs Mural Festival. 18 murals were painted in 5 days by 260 international artists. The murals cover several subjects of Streator's history and are within walking distance of the downtown area. Guide books are available at City Hall and guided tours can be booked through the Streator Walldogs website. AAN www www.for Also in 2018, this massive 3 story mural was erected on the side of a downtown building as part of the downtown revitalzation project. Located near the corner of Main and Monroe street, it is an impressive rendition of a 1920's street scene using familiar businesses from Streator's past. Artist Ray Paseka, with help from several artists and craftsmen, painted and installed a framework on enjoy illinois the side of the building to adhere several large panels like a puzzle. Just to the north is another of Pasekas works which was privately done to complement his other piece. Pluto is near and dear to the hearts of Streatorites. Streator is the birthplace and boyhood home of Clyde Tombaugh, the person who discovered Pluto in 1930 while working at the Cal Rodgers from the Vin Fiz mural in downtown Streator, 100 w Main St-created by Sonny Franks. Heritage Corridor co PLUTO Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. Pluto and Mr. Tombaugh have many pieces of art dedicated to them throughout the community. The Pluto monument stands at Anderson Golf Course on the North end. During the New Horizons mission in 2015, a heart shaped area was photographed and has officially been named the "Tombaugh Reggio." One of the most recent installments is a sculpture from local artist Don Noon. Noon has multiple sculptures located throughout Streator. Mostly made of Corten Steel. You can find his work at City Hall, The Fire Station and across the street from there, SHS and at Marilla Park seen pictured. Visit Streator.org to learn about these works of art and more. There you will find a Google map to help you find each piece. Streatscapes, a local 501c3 organization, has taken on this artistic approach to the community. They have many projects and ideas that they are currently working to incorporate into the town. The committee encourages artists and creatives to contact them about displaying their art whether as a loan or permanent display. In addition, the committee is working with the City to help artists and creatives move to the community and open an artistic based business.
